To Publishers & Agents who would like an Overview of my work

< I have had dozens of requests for an update of "Arabs & Israel for Beginners." The book has sold over 25,000 copies, was called by ADC (American Arab Anti-discrimination Comm.) "the one book to read if you want to understand the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis"; it has had over 75 reader reviews on Amazon, plus dozens of letters sent to me ... etc.---but it "ends" in 1993.

It doesn't cover the monumental events involving Arabs, Muslims, Israelis AND Americans since then.

I will not publish the "sequel" with Writers & Readers (the original publisher), nor will I try to compete with the original version published by W&R. I would write an entirely separate book that does not in any way compete with the Beginners Series. At this point, I presume that means that the new book would not have drawings & illustrations.

It's a novel about the flaky super of a NY apt bldg and a widow who is pissed off at God ... and it has absolutely no redeeming social value.

"X" (Extreme) Sports are all the rage, but sports fans (EX-treme and MAIN-stream) are as politically conservative as your grandmother's underwear.

Why don't we give the Dudes some testosterone-driven politics to match their balls-out, don't-do-anything-halfway approach to sports? Like--

X-Economics: Real Capitalism--you don't get your Daddy's money; everybody starts from scratch!

X-Foreign Aid: Stop all foreign aid.

X-Defense Budget: Allocate only enough money to defend the very finite country of America. (10% of the present Defense Budget would be more than enough.)

X-Economy: Spend America's money on The People!!!

X-Accountability: Any politician found guilty of misusing American money would be liable to pay back that money -- with no statute of limitations.

... and so on.

Proposals for Book Series

Q: What qualifications does Ron David have that make him especially equipped to develop a Series of Books?

A: In 1992 I submitted "Arabs & Israel for Beginners" to Writers & Readers Pub. Glenn Thompson [publisher] was so impressed that he asked me to run the series. During my four years as Ed. in Chief, I 'midwifed' over 35 books on a variety of subjects (Derrida, Sartre, Chomsky, Postmodernism, The Black Holocaust, Shakespeare, The Jewish Holocaust, Buddha, Domestic Violence, etc.) and I commissioned another 30 or 40 books that were in various stages of progress when I left. And in my spare time I wrote "Jazz for Beginners" and "Opera for Beginners."

Q: Anything else?

A: A few years later my agent submitted "Toni Morrison Explained" to Random House. The editor and publisher were so impressed that they asked me to develop a new series on writers. I was halfway through the second book when a restructuring (like Iraq is being restructured) resulted in the dissolution of the entire department. Good people lost jobs and my series died before it was born. (...but, like dr. frankenstein, i haff many notes...)
