The Proper Language - the Missing Ingredient

Anyone who has ever tried to write about the inordinate, nearly terrifying, degree of influence that certain people have on the American government is stopped dead in their tracks by language.

Who are the people who have this inordinate, terrifying degree of influence on the American government? They are the people that the brilliant and fair Noam Chomsky refers to as "supporters of Israel"? Are they Jews? Some of them are. Some of them aren't. To indict all Jews because of what a few Jews do would be a return to the horrors of full blown anti-Semitism. Out of the question. Not to mention the fact that Chomsky and many of the other human beings who stand heroically against the “supporters of Israel” are themselves Jewish. So the distinction is clearly not between Jews and nonJews.

Chomsky is not only a humanistic, brilliant, courageous and spectacularly fair guy – he’s also a linguist. So it’s kind of presumptuous of me to criticize his language. But I’ll do it just the same.

If one of the "jobs" of language is to convey the spirit of whatever it describes, "supporters of Israel" is such a complete flop that if it were anyone but Chomsky I'd think it was intentional. Supporters of Israel doesn't convey a drop of the brutal self-absorption of the … alleged perpetrators.

The basic requirement of a definition is that it includes all of the (in this case) people it defines -- (which supporters of Israel does) and that it excludes everyone who is not in this category (which supporters of Israel misses by a mile). Supporters of Israel includes everyone from a child who puts a dollar in a collection box to Jonathan Pollard (the American who spied on the U.S. for Israel) to the lunatic who opened fire on a Palestinian mosque or the Israeli "patriot" who assassinated Yitzhak Rabin.

We need a term that separates the people we're trying to describe from everyone else.

We need a term that in itself strongly suggests what we find so reprehensible and dangerous about the people we're trying to describe. What kind of people? People, for example, who run programs (in plain language we'd call them scams) that give billions of dollars of American money to Israel without the knowledge or consent of the American people ...

If you have the guts to look at something fairly disgusting, click on this Follow the $$ link. Look at the list of American politicians who, year after year, take bribes from Israel. From everything that you know about human beings, are every one of those bribe taking American politicians doing Israel's bidding? Are they in Israel's pocket? Is the Israeli lobby dumb enough to pay them for ignoring what Israel wants? Like, if some politician said, “The hell with you guys! I am going to do only, entirely and always what is best for the American people” – do you think the Israeli lobby would say, “Go in peace, my son, and keep the money we gave you because you are such an Honorable Dude?” Not in a million years! All those guys on Israel’s “Contribution” list – virtually every politician in America – do exactly what Israel wants them to do? If they weren't, they wouldn’t be paid. You know that as well as I do.

It gets worse.

Our politicians are so deep in Israel's pocket that they have rewritten our laws so that, WE, the American taxpayers, pay Israel the money that it subsequently uses to bribe our politicians!

That's right (try not to get dizzy): WE give Israel the money to bribe our politicians into giving money to Israel so that they can bribe our politicians into giving Israel more money to bribe our politicians with!?!

Could Americans use the money? (As Bill Murray said to Sigourney Weaver when she asked him if he'd like to make love to her -- "Is that a trick question?") Our economy is in a shambles, thousands of Americans are unemployed, president Butthead is doing his best to start an expensive and useless war -- Damn right we could use the money!

So any American politician who either takes "contributions" from Israel -- OR who allows approximately TEN BILLION DOLLARS a year to be given to Israel instead of spending it on the American people --- is putting Israel first! (That’s right: if you include the tax breaks given to "supporters of Israel," we really do waste TEN BILLION DOLLARS a year on Israel.) America's economy is in a shambles, thousands of us are either unemployed or working shit jobs, and damn near every politician in America puts Israel first!

That is what I mean by ‘Israel-Firsters.’

People who put Israel before America.

Especially American citizens who put Israel before America.

Israel-Firsters.
